EKU Student-Athletes Post Impressive Academic Numbers in Fall Semester

The 2012 fall academic semester was the most successful fall semester this century for Eastern Kentucky University student-athletes in the classroom.  Twelve of the 15 Colonel athletic teams (indoor and outdoor track teams combined) finished the fall semester with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) at or above 3.0.

The women’s tennis team, which won the 2012 Ohio Valley Conference title and advanced to NCAA tournament action, posted the highest team GPA at 3.69.  Meanwhile, the men’s cross country team was tops among the seven men’s programs with a 3.31 GPA. The men’s cross country team finished 24th at this year’s NCAA cross country championships.

Forty-five student-athletes spanning twelve sports recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA last semester while 95 student-athletes qualified for the Dean’s List. Overall, 53 percent of the 374 student-athletes ended the semester with a GPA above 3.0.

In all, 19 student-athletes earned their collegiate diplomas from Eastern Kentucky University this past December. The final fall GPA for all student-athletes was a 3.01.
