Washington Monthly Recognizes EKU for Contributions to Public Good

For the third consecutive year, Eastern Kentucky University has earned national recognition for its contribution to the public good.

EKU was honored along with 681 other Master’s Universities nationwide in the 2012 Washington (DC) Monthly College Guide and Rankings. (In addition, Eastern now offers three doctoral degrees – in educational leadership and policy studies, nursing practice and occupational therapy.)

Washington Monthly rates schools based on their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), research (producing cutting-edge scholarship and PhDs), and service (encouraging students to give something back to their country).

“Unlike similar college ranking guides, this one asks not what colleges can do for you, but what colleges are doing for the country,” the magazine explains. “Are they educating low-income students? Are they improving the quality of their teaching? Are they trying to become more productive? This guide asks: Are we getting the most for our money?”
